# Joining an Intercom

There are a couple of different routes to join an intercom...

### As the Intercom Owner/Creator

If you have just created the intercom in your account page, you will be redirected automatically to the intercom interface. If you previously created an intercom and wish to join it again at a later time, you can find all of your created intercoms in your [account page](https://www.webcomms.net/account/intercoms).

You can join your intercom of choice by click the 'Enter' button underneath the intercom.

### As a Guest User

The intercom can be joined via clicking the url link to the intercom which will have been sent to you by the owner/creator. Or if you are an on-the-go user, they may have sent you a QR code to scan which will also direct you to the intercom page.

## Allowing Microphone Access

When joining the intercom for the first time, you will be prompted to allow microphone access like so:

Once granted, the system will continue joining you to the intercom system. If at some point you accidentally click 'Never Allow', this can be changed by clicking the website preferences button and either resetting the permission and refreshing the page, or directly enabling microphone access and refreshing the page.

## The User Settings Dialog

This dialog contains all of the basic settings you may want to configure as a user of the intercom system. They are unique to you and do not affect the settings of other users in the system.

### General

<figure><img src="/files/DqvNfuZNO59893ap85M5" alt=""><figcaption><p>General Settings Tab</p></figcaption></figure>

The general settings must always be completed before joining the intercom is allowed. I

f you have an account and are signed in, the intercom system will use the default name you have configured in your user profile. This can still be changed in this dialog and it will not affect the default name configured in your account. If you are a guest and are not signed into an account the box will be empty and you will need to type a display name before being allowed to join.

You must also select the role as this will determine which channels you have the permissions to access.

Once these two items are completed, the 'Join Intercom as' button will become active, allowing you to join the intercom directly if you wish.

### Audio

<figure><img src="/files/oyysg6dTKsPnBpHRUdEw" alt=""><figcaption><p>Audio Settings Tab</p></figcaption></figure>

In the audio settings tab you can select the input and output audio devices.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Selecting the input and output audio devices is currently only supported in Google Chrome and Chromium based browsers. It may work on other browsers but use at your own risk.
{% endhint %}

The intercom buttons have a desktop user method of changing the volume of each channel. This is however not easily accessible to mobile users with a touchscreen. If you are using a device with a touchscreen it is highly recommended to enable this feature, and in most cases on a mobile device you may find it already enabled for you.

### Share

<figure><img src="/files/E6iO0QV0eMXsFPM6VnLm" alt=""><figcaption><p>Share Tab</p></figcaption></figure>

The 'Share' tab generates a QR code and link to share the intercom system with guest users regardless of if they have an account or not. This is the easiest and quickest way to have other users join your intercom system. Waving your mouse over the QR code will show a 'Copy' button, allowing you to easily copy the QR code. The text based link is also generated below the QR code for you to copy if that works better for you.

### Companion <mark style="color:green;">(Pro Tier)</mark>

<figure><img src="/files/eKztetwj3rRDNtv5qVWC" alt=""><figcaption><p>Companion Tab</p></figcaption></figure>

The 'Companion' tab provides logged in users who have a Pro Subscription access to the relevant details for the Bitfocus Companion module developed for Stream Deck usage with Web Comms. For more information on how to use this information, see the Companion Module documentation.

## Post Join

After successfully connecting to the intercom system, you should be presented with the channels that you have the permissions for within your role. It will look something like this:

<figure><img src="/files/vOXBNOKLkKOGByJwAHVx" alt=""><figcaption><p>Basic Inteercom Joined</p></figcaption></figure>

Clicking the 'Settings' cog in the top bar brings up the User Settings dialog which was previously open, should you wish to change any settings. There is also an 'Exit' button in the top right for those who wish to exit the intercom without closing the tab. If you are logged in to an account, you will be redirected to your account page. If you are a guest user, you will be redirected to the home page.

For information on how the intercom buttons work, head to the 'Using an Intercom Button' page.
